Horn of Africa Appeal

The Horn of Africa crisis has affected the east african countries  Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and South Sudan causing the worst droughts in 60 years.

Families are walking bare foot for days in search of food and water near the boarder of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.  No less than 12 million people are fighting for their lives as food and water become non existent and forcing people to walk endless miles in the unbearable heat.  The drought is destroying livestock and the little that is rescued is going up several folds in price, making it unaffordable for most families. 

Each day over 50 babies are dying in one camp.  There are approximately 3,500 malnourished people coming to the overcrowded camps each day.

Dadaab camp, the largest camp is eastern Kenya (now the largest refugee camp in the world) is sheltering over 380,000 people in a capacity designed to facilitate around 90,000.  The number is still increasing as over a thousand children are turning up everyday.

  
The estimated cost for a food pack is £10 (20 kilo a pack) which is £500 per tone.  A full truck takes 20 tonnes. 

During the begining of Ramadhan 2011 Mountain Of Mercy appealed for 2 trucks. Alhamdulillah through your donations we have managed over 3 truck loads of distribution.
